How often do you need to brush a Persian?

My son is house sitting for his boss for 2 weeks.They have a pedigree white persian who is indoors only.He is in another town so it is not a job i can do for him, when he asked how often she needs to be brushed they said she will be fine you don't need to brush her.But i thought persians need to be brushed regularly so their fur doesn't get matted.He says she is stunningly beautiful no mats in her fur,no tear stains near her eyes nothing.How will she stay this way if he doesn't brush her?He said the cat Bella is very friendly and really cuddly, and she snuggles up with him in bed.So she is well looked after and loved,he said Bella is their pride and joy.Will she be ok without being brushed?
