My Mac isn't accepting a cd?

I'm trying to put Codes and Keys by Death Cab For Cutie into my Mac's cd drive and it makes that crushing sound like it's in the slot, and it whirs for a little bit, but then the whirring stops, then starts again, then stops, and eventually it just spits the cd back out. i don't understand what's going on!
